CT Insulations manufacture fixed smoke curtains that are mainly used for splitting roof spaces into smaller sections to direct toxic smoke and fumes towards ventilation systems.

The most common applications are large open plan industrial warehouse where the roof space needs to be compartmentalised to prevent the spread of products that combust in the event of fire. Typical examples are large distribution centres e.g. Asda, Tesco & TNT, aeroplane hangers and open-plan factories.

There are two main types of fixed smoke curtain;

Apex type smoke curtain

Smoke curtains fixed within an apex roof break up the length of the roof space by forming barriers at right angles to the length of the building.

Valley type smoke curtain

Valley smoke curtains are installed when there are several apexes across a large building. The smoke curtains run down the length of the buildings from the bottom of the apexes to lower roof space.

Different curtain coatings available

Most fire and smoke curtains are made from woven glass fabric, this is weave locked to make the fabric stiffer and therefore hang better.

The glass fabric can be coated, usually with a polyurethane coating that has a one hour fire rating. PU coating is normally coloured grey, whereas the uncoated glass fabric is white. The glass fabric can also be coated in silicone (available in various colours) which is ideal for use in food preparation areas.

For quoting and manufacturing we need to know the type of fabric and the finished size of the smoke curtain plus the hem size. Hems vary between 50mm and 200mm, some of which carry bars to weigh the smoke curtain down.

Our workshop has a large floor space able to cope with long curtain drop. Where the curtain is of size that becomes to large to hang in one piece, these can be manufactured in sections to be joined on site.

Our fire curtains and fire protection blankets have been exported to Europe and beyond, including Dubai and Saudi Arabia.
